More than 18 people died and over 70 were injured. Joisher survived the avalanche and stayed alive to tell the story. However, this was not a mountain climbing tragedy; it was a tragedy of unprecedented levels. Over nine and half thousand people died in Nepal, tens of thousands were seriously injured, and more than half a million were displaced from their homes and continue living in temporary shelters today.

Homeschoolers Visit the Newport Sea Base

So, what can home schoolers do at Newport Sea Base? Families from Calvary Chapel’s home school group found out on Friday! Arriving at 10 a.m., the 90 participants soon found themselves confronted by an amazing array of choices. There were tickets for 30 minutes of fishing, rowing, sailing, pontoon boat tours, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and Supsquatch, as well as smoke ring launchers, life ring toss, DNA extraction, shark tooth hunts and face painting.

Soon excited faces and grins were evident everywhere. The beautiful weather added to the fun as paddle boarders and Supsquatch paddlers used their boards as an excuse to jump in the water. As the day wound to a close, a departing child commented to his parent, “That was so much fun! Can I come back for the science class?”

Newport Sea Base offers educational and recreational field trips and group activities for groups of all sizes and budgets. Call Ext. 309 today to arrange for your group’s day at the Newport Sea Base.
